A Night of Hope and Healing: The 25th Annual APFUMI Banquet, 'The SOWER'

On September 25th, despite uncertain weather forecasts, the 25th Annual APFUMI Banquet, titled "The SOWER", took place at the serene and picturesque OUR Farm in Abbeville, SC. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, workers, and the board’s unwavering faith in hosting the event, the evening was nothing short of a success. The collaboration of Greenwood Christian School’s National Honor Society added a special touch, helping to ensure that everything went smoothly.

As guests arrived, they were greeted by the tranquil beauty of the farm. Fresh hay bales, vibrant mums, and stunning wreaths—crafted by board member Bonnie Boyd—set the stage for the evening. Above them, white tents strung with twinkling lights created a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for gathering under the pecan trees.

A Serene Start, Interrupted by Rain—But Not Damped Spirits

Just as guests were settling into their surroundings, the rain began to fall. But surprisingly, the showers didn't dampen the spirits of those gathered; instead, they added an unexpected sense of peace and calm to the evening. At 6:00 PM, the program began, and, miraculously, the rain stopped. Guests were able to fully focus on the inspiring words and stories shared throughout the night.

A Heartfelt Program Filled with Stories of Hope

The evening’s program was filled with stories of personal transformation, music, and reflections on the future. MC Jami Steilfe guided the audience through the evening’s agenda with warmth and grace, emphasizing the mission of APFUMI.

Dennis Stoll kicked off the program with a prayer, sharing his transformative experience at the Compassion Fatigue Retreat. His words set the tone for the evening: a night of reflection and gratitude. Several moving testimonies followed, underscoring the impact of OUR Farm and APFUMI’s work.

One poignant story came from a single mom who shared how equine therapy and individual sessions at the farm had helped her family heal. A young girl’s powerful rendition of “I’m Not Ok” by Jelly Roll moved everyone in attendance. Vali’s story of healing through APFUMI’s programs also struck a deep chord with the crowd.

Tammie Price, a key figure in APFUMI’s leadership, provided an insightful update on the organization’s history and its exciting plans for the future. She shared news of selling the residential home to focus on the farm's potential to help even more people and to expand agricultural training in Nicaragua. This initiative promises to create new opportunities for families in need.

A Successful Giving Campaign

As the evening continued, the generosity of the guests was evident in the giving campaign. Many attendees chose to partner with APFUMI in various ways. Nine new monthly "Hope Givers" joined the APFUMI family, offering crucial support for the farm’s operational needs. Others made one-time gifts or pledged to donate within the next 90 days.

The outpouring of support was overwhelming, and the gratitude in the room was palpable. APFUMI’s long-time supporters, who have faithfully stood by the organization for years, were recognized, and their continued partnership will help ensure that the mission of hope, healing, and support continues to grow.

A Beautiful Evening, Highlighted by Music and a Delicious Meal

As the night unfolded, the program continued with the soothing sounds of Pastor Rodney Shultz’s violin performance. His soul-stirring melodies added a touch of elegance to the evening, underscoring the deep sense of purpose that permeated the event.

The culinary experience was another highlight of the night, with Gather Bistro and Bakery providing a delicious dinner. Guests raved about the Chicken Divine, flavorful rice, tender green beans, broccoli salad, and decadent cheesecake. Guests claimed the meal was the best they had ever experienced at a fundraising event, along with the best service. Special mention must go to Bennie, a board member, who wowed the crowd with her homemade yeast rolls.

Gather Bistro and Bakery, located within The Alcoves, is known for its soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. However, they certainly made a statement with this meal, showcasing their culinary talents and commitment to the ministry.

A Beautiful Finale: Sunset and a Heartfelt Farewell

As the evening drew to a close, Rika shared a powerful and personal story of healing and hope, bringing a sense of closure to the program. Just as she finished, a breathtaking sunset unfolded before the guests’ eyes, casting a warm glow over the farm. The horses in the pasture seemed to sense the magic, and the beauty of the moment left everyone awestruck.

Tommy Cartledge, the previous owner of the farm, also shared a heartfelt story about the farm’s transition to APFUMI. His words left the crowd grateful for the mission that continues to touch so many lives.

As guests departed, they couldn’t help but agree: it had been a truly unforgettable evening. From the rain that didn’t dampen spirits to the inspiring stories and breathtaking views, it was an evening filled with beauty, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Looking Ahead: The Future of APFUMI

As we reflect on this milestone event, we are filled with gratitude for all who attended, supported, and helped make this evening so special. The success of this year’s banquet strengthens our resolve to continue providing support, healing, and opportunities for those in need. The generosity and dedication of our community are what allow us to move forward with hope.
